John Gordon Mackay, passed away at Lachine Hospital (McGill University Health Centre) at the age of 78 years old, Saturday, June 19th, 2021, with his family by his side.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, son to Benjamin and Rose Anne Mackay.
He attended George Heriot’s School in Scotland, pursuing to become a chemical engineer at Edinburgh University and finishing his Executive MBA at Simon Fraser University.
On one of Gordon’s travel adventures, he met Wendy Louise Wannell crossing the Indian Ocean in 1967.
They eventually reunited and married in Vancouver, B.C. in 1968.
Before settling down in Montreal, Quebec, Wendy and Gordon were always gallivanting somewhere around the world.
Gordon was a wonderfully devoted father to his 3 children David, Andrew, and their very special daughter, Sara.
He was immensely proud of his children and leaves nothing but beautiful memories.
Gordon was always working hard but always found time for Wendy and the children.
We will miss him every day and especially the long walks along the canal.
Gordon spent 35 years with Seagrams, finishing his career there, where he was well known and admired.
Our beloved Gordon, you will always be forever in our hearts.
A Special thanks to our neighbours and the wonderful doctors and nurses at McGill University College Hospital who provided invaluable care to Gordon and our family.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be announced later this year.
In lieu of flowers, we have set up an In Memoriam donation page with the McGill University Health Centre Foundation in his name.

A true professional by all measures and a great guy. Condolences to the entire family.
Very sorry to learn of Gordon’s passing. My deepest sympathies to his family. I had the great pleasure to work with Gordon at Seagram. I remember his positive energy, and how very knowledgeable and patient he was in helping me learn about and appreciate the Seagram rum portfolio. May He Rest in Peace.
