M. Oleg Axiuk

1936-2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Oleg Axiuk on February 3, 2022 at the age of 85. He passed away peacefully at Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire after many years of complications due to heart disease. Oleg was born in Eastern Ukraine near Horlivka. During the difficulties of World War II Oleg, as an only child, with his father Nicolas and mother Alexandra, were deported to Germany as labourers. After the war, they moved to Belgium and lived in Morlanwelz, Hainaut. In 1951 the family immigrated to Montreal, Quebec. In 1962 he married Tanya Kislenko/Axiuk from Lachine and they had 3 children: Andrew (Sharon), Katherine (Sergei) and Paul (Elizabeth). Oleg was also a cherished grandfather to Daniel, Julia and Olivia.

Throughout his life Oleg loved his Ukrainian church and community. He enjoyed a wonderful social life including dances, concerts as well as all the parties and celebrations held at home with many different friends and relatives. Life was good in Quebec. Oleg was the « life of the party » and had a great sense of humour and always had cute and witty jokes for everyone. Oleg adored his family, his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted family man, kind to everyone, hardworking and had a zest for life. Oleg enjoyed his successful 32-year career at Northern Telecom in the R&D department.

We are truly grateful to all the doctors and medical staff for the wonderful care Oleg received throughout the years. A special thank-you to his cardiologist Dr. Franco Sandrin, GP Dr. Shirley Gavlas, Nancy Aubert, head of the excellent local CLSC nursing team as well as Josée Morier, CLSC nurse.

Oleg, your welcoming heart, smile, warm eyes and humour are now gone but will remain with us forever. You have left us so many memories of times together. Lara and I will miss you but will remember you with love as one of the special people we were so fortunate to have in our lives.

Oleg, was the first neighbor I’ve met when I moved to Notre-Dame de Ile Perrot. He came to see me to introduce himself with great kindness. He provide me with good advise on how to care for my garden, offered to lend me his tools and help if ever I needed it. Every time, I would go for my occasional run he would always take a moment to wave goodbye with a smile.
You will always remain with me forever in my heart.
    Danielle xxx
