M. Ignatius “Ben” Martins

1935 – 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ignatius Benedict “Ben” Martins, son of the late Vincentinho Martins and the late Artimisia Cabral. He was predeceased by his brother Alex Martins (Pedrinha), and his sisters Felicidade Fernandes (Roque), and Helen D’Sa (Francis).

Ben will be affectionately remembered by his devoted wife Angela, his loving children Vincent (Katharina), Evelyn (Joseph), and Claude (Kyenta), his adored grandchildren Gabriel, Anne-Marie, Xavier, Cecilia, Daniel, Teresa, Cate, and Zoe, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends all over the world.

Ben was hard-working, determined, and optimistic, making many sacrifices to provide a better future for his children. He was never afraid to take on challenges, picking up new languages, starting his own successful business, learning to paint and play guitar. He loved to travel and experience the sights and sounds of different countries with his family. He always appreciated an audience, keeping everyone amused with funny anecdotes and enjoying their laughter. Known to his grandchildren and many as beloved « Opa », everyone looked forward to his cutlets and butter chicken dishes.

Above all else, Ben’s family, especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy. With a wonderful sense of humour, a quick wit, and a warm smile, he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to send special thanks to the staff at the Jewish General Hospital, and the CLSC Vaudreuil Palliative Health Team for their kindness, care, and compassion.

Given the current situation, a private funeral Mass will be held.

Memorial donations may be made either to the Jewish General Hospital Oncology Department (https://jghfoundation.crowdchange.co/14038/page/266433) or

Corpus Christi Parish https://www.corpuschristiparish.ca/).

» Bon courage!
