1937-2024
Nora died peacefully early last week at CHSLD Vigi Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Montreal.
Nora was born in 1937 in Hampton (King’s), New Brunswick to Gerald Samuel Brown and his wife Greta Cecilia Edna (Earle).
She lived her early years in Hampton, New Brunswick. In 1944, her father, a volunteer fireman, was killed in a rollover accident of the fire-engine. She continued to live in the same house with her mother, older sister Myrtle Louise, and grandmother Anna (Snodgrass) Brown. Her brother-in-law, Sterling Albert Braman, bought the family home and moved in with the family after his wedding with Myrtle in Feb 1949.
In June 1950, her mother married Theodore Calvin Mott, and Nora moved to join them and gained a step-brother Lloyd Calvin and two step-sisters Jean Marie & Irene May, with whom she became very close as they were all very close in age.
In 1958, after finishing school and being trained as a hairdresser, Nora moved to Montreal to be closer to Myrtle Louise and her nephews & niece – John, Fred, Douglas & Shirley Braman who had moved there in 1956. She is remembered as a loving and generous auntie to them.
After working many years as a hairdresser in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Montreal, she retrained and got a job as a secretary at MacDonald College. She worked many years in the Entomology Department, and gained a reputation there as an excellent proof-reader by the professors and doctoral students. She also gained quite a reputation from her nieces & nephews for her extensive knowledge of bugs and her strange fondness for spiders. She finished her working career at the Women’s Studies Department, McGill University, in downtown Montreal. All who knew her will remember her amusing stories, wry observations and imitations.
She will be missed very much by her step-brother Lloyd Mott and step-sister Irene (Charles) Cyr of New Brunswick, her nephews John (Betty Ann) Braman of Cornwall, ON & Fred (Eleanor) Braman of Montreal,QC and her niece Shirley (Chris) Gosselin of Kitchener, ON. She is also survived by her grand-niece Louise Braman, her grand-nephews Zachary & Chris Braman (Claire), her great-nieces April & Alicia Braman, her great-great-nephew Ozzy Markus, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Cremation has occurred and interment will follow later in Hampton, NB with her father & brother. A celebration of life will be held later this year in the J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home, 560 Lakeshore Ave, Dorval,QC. Please contact fred.braman@videotron.ca if you would like to be invited to it. There will also be a small celebration in Hampton, at the time of her interment. As Nora was a lifelong cat lover, we suggest donations in her memory to your local branch of the SPCA. The family extend their thanks and appreciation for the loving and gentle care which Nora received at Vigi DDO for the last eleven years.
