Mrs. Elsie Gauthier (nee Chicorli)

Mrs. Elsie Gauthier (nee Chicorli)

1937-2024

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce our beloved Mom, Elsie Gauthier (nee Chicorli), passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. She was surrounded by her 2 daughters, Diane and Michelle, and her sons, Richard and John.

Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jean, who passed away from cancer in 2013.  She leaves behind her daughters Diane, Michelle (Vic) and her sons Richard and John. She adored and cherished her 4 grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Emma and Colin.

Her family meant the world to her, and she meant the world to us. We will forever miss her smile, hugs and beautiful green eyes. She will be forever in our hearts.

She is also survived by her brother Tom Chicorli of Thunder Bay, Ontario, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and brother-in-law Raymond Gauthier. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anne, brother, Rob, and sisters, Eleanor Cummins and Sonia Grant. Elsie was born in Saskatchewan, but the family moved to Thunder Bay when she was a young child. She excelled in school and was Valedictorian of her graduating high school class. After high school, she went to nursing school and became a registered nurse, graduating in 1959.

Our parents met and fell in love in Thunder Bay where our dad was playing professional hockey. They became soul mates and married in 1959. They moved to Montreal, where our father’s hockey career took them, and started a family in 1960. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s our family travelled a lot during his hockey career where he played in the NHL, AHL & WHA.

Elsie would get back to nursing in Montreal as a registered nurse at the Royal Victoria hospital. She loved her career as a nurse and retired after 18 years. Once retired, Elsie dove into her many hobbies, such as knitting, sewing, playing bridge and her weekly Wednesday morning bowling league.

In retirement, our parents would get to Florida when they could, taking trips with her dear sister Sonia and her husband Jim. While in Florida, they would also spend time with our father’s brother Pierre and family, where they shared many great times at the beach. They also spent summers in the Laurentians with their family.

Our mother made every holiday so special, from her unforgettable turkey dinners to her delicious apple and strawberry pies – her turkey stuffing was the best! We were also so lucky to enjoy perogies and cabbage rolls that she would make with our grandma Chicorli during her annual visits to Montreal.

She will be missed by many, most especially her children and grandchildren. She was the best mom and grandma we could ever ask for and she meant the world to us and to all of those that knew her. She was a very special person and will live on forever in our hearts.

A special thank you to the entire staff at Résidence Ste. Anne de Bellevue, especially Mercy, Lori, and Cathy, and Dr. Genevieve Richer who took such good care of her the last year of her life. We would also like to thank our cousin Dr. Allison Grant from Toronto who showed us so much love & support, especially throughout the last year of mom’s life. Thank you to Father Fred Kirouac from St. Veronica’s parish for visiting our mom on the Friday before her death.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to St. Veronica’s parish in Dorval or Residence Ste. Anne de Bellevue.

There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10am at St. Veronica’s church in Dorval located at 1300 Carson Ave. followed by a celebration of life and visitation with the family at J.C. Cardinal funeral home in Dorval located at 560 Lakeshore Drive.
