Mrs. Norma de Souza

1945-2024

Norma P. de Souza (née Colaço), age 79, of Dorval, Quebec, died peacefully at her palliative care residence on November 25, 2024.  She was born in Goa, India, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Refregina Colaço, and sister of the late Libio Colaço (Maria).

She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Thomas de Souza. She is survived and very dearly missed by her children Wendy (Patrick), Glenn (Sonya), and Melissa (Frank), and her grandchildren Michelle (Brandon), Aurelia, and Aldrin. She also leaves behind her nephews Edsel and Duran, and many cherished extended family members.

Norma grew up in Mumbai, where she had many fond memories of her school days, family celebrations, and religious feasts with her friends and family.  She graduated from teacher’s college, married Thomas, and they took an extended honeymoon before settling in Montreal during Expo 67. They enjoyed first camping and then car trips especially to the eastern coast of Canada and the US with their children. They cruised together in their later years particularly to warm destinations and to revisit some of their honeymoon stops.

While raising her three children in Lachine then Dorval, Quebec, she continued to do substitute teaching and had a particular affinity for specialized education schools.  She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at Resurrection of Our Lord church in Lachine, where she was a longtime member of the Catholic Women’s League, and at St. Veronica’s Parish in Dorval.

Her devotion to her family and to her faith remained her constant priorities until her passing.

The family wishes to thank the Royal Victoria Hospital Glen Site for their compassionate care, and the outstanding Teresa Dellar Palliative Care team, for their endless caring attention and expertise during her final months.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be most appreciated.

Visitation will take place at J.C. Cardinal Funeral Home, 560 Lakeshore, Dorval, QC H9S 2B3 on Friday Nov. 29 from 2 – 5 pm and 7 – 9 pm. A funeral celebration will be held on Saturday Nov. 30, 11:30 am at St. Veronica’s Parish, 1300 Ave Carson, Dorval, H9S 1M6, followed by a reception back at J.C. Cardinal.
