In Loving Memory of Shin Bum (Peter) Moon (1950–2025)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shin Bum (Peter) Moon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on the morning of January 16, 2025. Born in 1950 as the son of a respected school principal and the second child in a family of five, Peter embodied the values of hard work, perseverance, and faith throughout his life.
Through sheer determination, he entered Sogang University and graduated with distinction. After completing his mandatory service in the Korean Army, Peter embarked on a career at Korean Airlines, steadily climbing the ranks before establishing his own airline entertainment company.
In 1987, Peter boldly moved his family to Montreal, Canada, to begin a new chapter. There, he founded a successful travel agency. He also became a major contributing writer for the Korean Times in Montreal, using his voice to connect and inspire the local Korean community.
A deeply pious man, Peter never missed a mass, finding comfort in his unwavering faith. Though he was not sad about leaving this world for the next, he expressed sorrow at no longer living in the same world as those he loved. As an avid volunteer, he dedicated countless hours to serving the Korean Christian community, exemplifying his steadfast faith and compassion.
Outside of his professional and community pursuits, Peter had a zest for life that shone through his many passions. He was a fishing enthusiast, an adventurous traveler, and an avid blogger with an impressive following of 500,000 in South Korea. Whether casting a line, exploring Canada on family road trips, or sharing his wisdom online, he approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and joy.
Above all, Pete was proud of his family. He loved to boast about his daughters, Hye Ra and Hye Won, and in recent years, his beloved granddaughter Kara, who brought him immense joy. His devotion to his wife, Theresa Kim, his sons-in-law, Jacky and Oscar, and his family was unwavering.
Peter faced his battle with cancer with incredible strength and grace, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and inspiration. He will be remembered as a loyal friend, a devoted family man, and a man of faith who touched the lives of everyone he met.
A celebration of Peter’s remarkable life will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025 at J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home, 2125 Rue Notre Dame, Lachine, QC. Visitation starts at 1 pm followed by ceremony at 4 pm.
His love, laughter, and wisdom will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Peter. You will be deeply missed.
