1956 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest D. Findlay, Ernie to his family and friends. Ernie passed away on February 12th at his home, as he had wished, and we take comfort that he was where he wanted to be.
Ernie is survived by his love, best friend and wife, Joy MacPherson and his much-loved and adored son, Justin (Samantha).
Predeceased by his father, Gordon, his mother, Marion Bean and his sister, Linda.
Ernie leaves to mourn his siblings; Heather, Donna, Cathy (Robert) and Laurie, along with many nieces and nephews. He was a great brother-in-law to Marvin, Stephen, Janet and David. His childhood friends; Bob, Shirley and Foster, who were always willing to lend a hand or come for a visit when Ernie needed them.
Ernie took great pride in showing Justin, starting at the age of 4, how to use the necessary tools to build (bird houses were their early favorites), repair just about anything and maintain those tools to be ready for the next project. He took great care, pride and was very talented in his carpentry work, home renovations and gardening. He happily shared that knowledge with his family, friends and customers too.
Although he was not able to, Ernie had hoped to see his beloved gardens in bloom one last time. To honor him, we will have a celebration of Ernie’s life at a later date among his beautiful flowers.
If you wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or another charity of your choice.
Rest easy my love, my Superman.

Joy and Justin, my heart breaks for both of you at the loss of a wonderful father and husband. Ernie was a terrific person and took such pride in all the work that he had accomplished over the years. He certainly did love his gardening and always had a great smile when explaining to friends what all the flowers were. He will truly be missed and will live in our hearts and memories forever. Miss you my friend.
Hi Kathy,
Many thanks for these kind words and being there for us during the journey with Ernie.
Love,
Joy & Justin

Hello Bob,
Thank you ever so much for everything you have done for Ernie, Justin and myself.
Sadly, it was too short of a friendship you had with Ernie.
Ernie appreciated your calls and words of encouragement!

I don’t know where you found the courage and strength to fight this terrible cancer. You had plenty of it. Thank you for the great work you did at our house over the years. Your skills and knowledge of tools and materials are hard to come by.these days. My deepest condolences to you Joy and Justin. Courage to you both. No more pain and suffering, just eternal peace for you Ernie.
Hello Bruno,
Ernie always enjoyed talking with you over these last 25 years. Sporting events with our boys were always fun!
He so appreciated when a friend or customer acknowledged & praised his work.
Thank you and take care,
Joy & Justin
Our hearts are so broken for our dear friend of over 42 years. We know that your suffering is over and that you are in the hands of the angels now where you are at peace and watching over your dear wife and son.as well as us Awesome long time friends are so hard to come by and especially one as dear and hard working as you were for both of us. You were always there for us and that was a true blessing We miss you dearly already but we know it was time for you to be free and fly away to be on the place of a beautiful heavenly garden full if flowers. Love and prayers to the family of Ernie. He is remembered as a special and true friend. And his memory will carry on forever. xxoo
To our dear Cheryl and Jesse,
Ernie always got a chuckle when Jesse would say “We are brothers from another mother”.
Oh, those discussions between Jesse and Ernie, about what to do next or how to fixing something at either of ours houses could go on forever! They would always come up with the best plan, accomplish it, and then looked forward to their next project together.
Thank you,
Joy & Justin

To all your families, relatives and friends of Ernie – sending my sympathies to all of you. Take comfort that he is no longer suffering. He will be with you all in Spirit, in your hearts, and in your memories. My heart goes out to you, your son, and everyone who loved Ernie. May he RIP in Heaven.

Ernie: We are blessed to have you in our family. You put up a brave fight and you are now one of our angels, no longer suffering. Be assured you and Joy did an amazing job raising Justin…. who carries on your wonderful talents, too many to list here. Rest in peace Dear Ernie, you will be missed.
Dear Janet and our siblings,
We were glad to have Ernie’s last Christmas Day dinner here at our house, so many Christmas meals together but now it seems there was never enough. He so enjoyed our get-togethers, our kitchen full of family and showing his latest accomplishment in our home renovation…and there were many over the past 30 years!
Love to all,
Joy & Justin
My deepest condolences to you Joy and your family. May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Hello Paula,
Thank you ever so much for these words and whenever we saw each other asking how we both were doing.
Ernie is at peace now after an arduous battle.
Take care my friend,
Joy & Justin
Our deepest condolences to Joy, Justin and your families. Ernie was such a kind soul, passionate about his gardens and fireworks, and a great neighbor. We are lucky to have know the family for the past 30 years. Ernie’s fingerprints are all over our home from odd jobs over the years. How lucky we were to have a handyman so close. We know this is a difficult time for everyone, but know you are in our hearts and thoughts. Ernie will be dearly missed. Stay strong for each other, and big hugs.
To Monique and Richard,
Ernie certainly enjoyed spending time with neighbours and, of course, setting off the occasional firework (when he didn’t think I would notice…hmmm).
Thank you,
Joy & Justin
My big bother, my good friend and occasional McGyver contractor. I am so grateful for all the wonderful memories over the years and for the loving care you received from family and friends. You will shine for me Ernie, in the beauty of nature and of course, every campfire.
Ernie, my brother, I am going to miss you. You fought a good battle but now it’s time to be pain free and enjoy the fireworks, campfires and all the beautiful flowers. Rest in peace❤️
