It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Amelia Calvo, who peacefully passed away on the morning of January 17, 2025, in Montreal, just before her 85th birthday, following a battle with ALS that she had been fighting for over two years.
Born on February 15, 1940, in Madrid, she leaves behind her children Belén Algora, Germán Algora (Marie-Claude Boyer), and Patricia Algora, her grandchildren Alexander Algora, Elissa Algora (Hugo Lemay), Nicolas Algora, and Francis Detsch, her sister Pilar Calvo, as well as her extended family.
Amelia was a fighter, mother, aunt, grandmother, and a global citizen passionate about education. Known for her contagious energy, she was a woman who always forged ahead, helping to open doors for the women of today. We will always be inspired by her strength of character, her clarity of mind, as well as her humour and joie de vivre, which she maintained until her departure for her next adventure, despite the illness.
The family will receive condolences on February 15, starting at 9:30 AM at the JC Cardinal Funeral Home, located at 560 Lakeshore Drive in Dorval. A prayer service will be held at noon in the funeral home chapel.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Alfred-Desrochers Long-Term Care Center, at the Montreal Geriatric Institute, for their attentive care and compassion during her stay.
