Mr. Raymond Goyette

1932-2023

Mr. Raymond Goyette, husband of the late Mercédès St-Amand, died peacefully and in dignity surrounded by family at the Teresa-Dellar Palliative Care Residence, on December 13, 2023, at the age of 91.

He leaves to mourn his brother Phil, his sons Paul (Lucie) and Louis, his grandchildren Erik (Erica), David (Lore), Kathrine (Ben), Clara (Lewis), his great-grandchildren Oliver and Isabella, his nephews and nieces, as well as many relatives and friends.

Raymond passed on the chance to play professional hockey to focus on his studies at Loyola College (Concordia University) where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in 1953. He gradually rose through the ranks at Northern Electric/Telecom as general manager and vice-president of various activities and divisions and participated in the transformation of the Canadian technology icon in the 1970s and 1980s as a global leader in telecommunications and data networking equipment.

He gave back to his community as President of the federal and provincial liberal associations of Lachine, President of the Lachine School Commission, and President of the board of directors of the Lachine General Hospital. A man of faith, he was a churchwarden of Saint-André-Hubert Parish. He was also a member of the board of directors of Waterside Village, in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he spent 30 winters with Mercédès and his companion Gisèle Lévesque.

An avid sportsman, he practiced tennis, golf, and cross-country skiing (Canadian Cross-Country Skiing Grand Marathon 1978). He traveled extensively visiting more than 40 countries and revelled in the experiences that the world had to offer. A man of culture, he loved classical music concerts, opera, jazz and reading. The family would like to thank Rachel, a dedicated nurse on the 14th floor of the Montreal General Hospital, who took care of dad in a difficult work environment. In lieu of flowers, your expressions of sympathy can be given through a donation to the Teresa-Dellar Palliative Care Residence. Funeral to be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Saints-Anges Church in Lachine,1400, rue Saint-Joseph, Montréal (Qc), H8S2M8
