Mrs. Doreen Gonsalves Pereira

(1933 – 2023)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our precious matriarch Doreen Gonsalves Pereira on 21 December 2023 at the age of 90 years young. She is reunited with her late husband Dennis Pereira and parents Gerald and Anna Gonsalves.

A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children Cyril, Jacqueline (Gerry), Andre (Christine), Denise and Marisa, her grandchildren Connor, Janae and Kai, her siblings Denzil (Linda predeceased), David predeceased (Flora), Daisy (Jerome), Drina predeceased (Norbert) and Daphne (Joe), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was our rock, our protector, and our guiding light. Her life will always be epitomized by her unwavering faith, her unconditional love for the five children she parented from a young widow, and her love of family and friends. Her beautiful smile, her gentle soft-spoken demeanour and her presence will forever be cherished.

She was greatly loved and respected by all who crossed her path and will forever be remembered for the graceful, compassionate, kind-hearted soul we were all blessed to have in our lives.

This shining star of our life has dimmed but will never be forgotten. Our memories will never fade as we look back on the courageous, amazing journey of her life. After having been our joy and earthly angel, she is now our eternal guardian angel. Forever loved, forever missed.

The family will receive condolences at the J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home (2125 rue Notre Dame, Lachine) on Thursday, 4 January 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A private funeral will be held at Saint John Paul II Parish (34, 34e Avenue, Lachine) on Friday, 5 January 2024 at 12:00 p.m.

We would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital for their kindness, care and support in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca) or Diabetes Canada (https://www.diabetes.ca).

My Dearest Auntie Doreen and second Mom, what a gift you were to all who had the great fortune to know you. You were such an inspiration and role model to all the girls who saw that to be a strong woman who loved with all her heart was the most powerful thing you could be. I will cherish our heart to heart talks we had while we drove home from downtown and I will always admire you for always putting the love you had for your family before anything else. You will forever have a place in my heart and I will always think of you and smile because when I think of you, my heart fills with joy. Love you forever and always, your niece, Michelle.

    Dear Daphne, Joe and family,
My sincere condolences to you. I had an opportunity to meet Doreen a couple of times. So I count that as a blessing. She is in happy place and will be your intercessor. May her soul rest in peace.
