Mrs. Elise Thérèse Leduc Richards

1931-2020

In Lachine, on September 6th 2020, at the age of 89, Elise Thérèse Leduc Richards passed away peacefully in hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer.  Beloved wife of the late Ira Richards (1987).  Native of La Tuque, Thérèse was predeceased by her parents, Emma Cantin and Jean-Baptiste Leduc and her brothers Robert, Roland (Estelle), Roger (Cécile), and Ovide.

She leaves in mourning her brother Régis (Carole) and many nieces, nephews, god daughter(s), and special friends.  Thérèse was very active in her community and her warm smile, generous nature, and positive outlook will be sorely missed.

Thérèse cared about people and genuinely wanted to see good outcomes. She adored children, had a wonderful sense of humor, was resourceful, fiercely independent, and loving. She loved shopping, concerts, creative writing, botany, sports and fitness. She participated in many programs offered on the island of Montreal and made many lifelong friends along the way. She was a believer in education, and firmly believed that it is important to give back to society and the community. She was always an advocate for the rights of people suffering from mental illness. She will be missed in her community, and many of those who will remember her most may not even know her name. The bus drivers, cashiers, and passing strangers will likely remember her beautiful smile and generosity of spirit. Her goddaughter Sylvia loved her very much and will miss her terribly. In our hearts, we will always be connected to Thérèse, and know that she is looking over us from a good place.

Thanks to the many nurses and doctors on the palliative care floor at the Lachine Hospital who cared for Thérèse in her final days.

I only just met (Aunt) Thérèse last year, but she made quite an impression. She was such a nice lady, who was fun, independent, and told you what she was thinking. She will be missed.

Andrea and Family: Life is a journey of sweetness and sorrow, of yesterday’s memories and hopes for tomorrow, of pathways we choose and detours we face. With patience and humour, courage and grace, of joys that we have shared and of people we have met who have touched us in ways we will never forget. Although no words of sympathy can ease the loss you bear, still, may you find some comfort knowing others truly care. All my love Moe.
