Mrs Evelyn Vera Hemsworth (Nee Marchand)

Passed away on April 18th, 2019 at the age of 84 years old

On April 18, 2019, after the happiest day she had lived in months, Evelyn Marchand Hemsworth passed peacefully at the age of 84. When she was 7, Evelyn, a Listuguj Mi’gmaq, moved from her traditional territory so that her widowed mother could be near her sisters in Montreal and find work. Evelyn enjoyed school, roller skating and Cherry Blossom candy. Her sons remember Saturday night card games surrounded by aunts and cousins and being given money to buy snacks. They proudly recall she regularly made supper for their friends and boast she was the only mother to play baseball whenever they were short a player. For over 40 years Evelyn and her husband successfully ran the family business, British Blue Print. On their days off, they went bowling or for a scenic drive. A devoted grandmother, she always attended school events and cooked Sunday dinner for the entire family. Evelyn enjoyed travelling with her sisters, playing bingo and gin rummy, and posing for photos in monster trucks. In recent years, she often said she had lived a good happy life. She was predeceased by her husband George Hemsworth. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Haidee, Jim and Sheri; her grandchildren Nicholas, Tristan, Emma, Robyn, and Benjamin. Her family dogs, Guinness and Coco Chanel, will always appreciate her bottomless bag of treats. Evelyn will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends, co-workers, and clients.

The family will greet friends and relatives Thursday April 25, from 1pm to 3pm at J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home (560 Lakeshore Dr., Dorval, 514-631-1511, www.jjcardinal.ca). A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held in the chapel at 3pm. The family extends its gratitude to all the staff at Chateau Royale and Mont Sinai for their attentiveness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated to Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation (5690 boul. Cavendish, Montreal, QC. H4W 1S7).
